Jacob Benson hurled a complete game four-hitter, Elijah Baez popped a two-run double in the first inning and the Essex High School baseball team opened its season with a 9-1 win over Rutland.
Jacob Gaboriault went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Jonathan Palmer and Pat Brodeur each tallied two hits and two runs for Essex, which scored four runs in the second inning.
