The Champlain Valley Union High baseball team will head to the diamond next week to raise money for a Williston community member fighting cancer.
On Thursday, May 1 at 4:30 p.m., the CVU varsity baseball team will be taking on the South Burlington Rebels in this year’s Strike Out Cancer game. The game is being played to raise funds for June Poodiak and her family’s fight against cancer. Her son, Dan, is a member of the Redhawks baseball team. The event, which will be held at CVU, will have raffle tickets, bright pink and black t-shirts for sale and a food truck. Please come and support!

ST. ALBANS – An error in the top of the seventh inning pushed across the winning run as BFA-St. Albans outlasted South Burlington 6-5 in a back-and-forth Metro Division baseball game Friday afternoon.
St. Johnsbury 16, Milton 1: Andrew Graciano homered and drove in six runs for St. Johnsbury in its win over Milton.
Essex 2, North Country 0: Noah Baez sparkled on the mound and at the plate for Essex as the Hornets held on for a win over North Country.
Champlain Valley 16, Mt. Abraham 1: Kyle Stanley struck out nine over a complete-game effort as Champlain Valley defeated visiting Mount Abraham.
Colchester 10, Mt. Mansfield 8 (8 innings): Nick Lamphere doubled and scored on an error in the eighth inning to lift Colchester past Mount Mansfield.
Middlebury 12, Rice 4: Isaac Rooney went 2-for-4 with six RBIs to lead Middlebury to a win over host Rice.
South Burlington 22, Missisquoi 9: South Burlington jumped out to a 10-run lead in the first inning and didn't look back in a win over Missisquoi.
North Country 6, Colchester 3: In his varsity debut, Collin Myrick struck out seven and gave up one earned run in five innings to lead host North Country past Colchester.
Tyler Sanville and Andrew Gonyaw each had two hits and two RBIs and Wyatt Prue also had two hits with an RBI for NC. Article by Burlington Free Press Rice 8, Essex 5: Rice used a six-run second inning to pull ahead and William Hesslick pitched the Green Knights to a win over host Essex.
Hesslink went seven innings, giving up three earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. Sean Remillard had an RBI single as part of the big second, which saw Rice (2-0) score six runs on five walks, two errors and one hit.
